Openside to open for Ellie Goulding's NZ tour

Auckland power pop four piece Openside have been announced as the opening act for Ellie Goulding's New Zealand tour. With just two weeks to go before the Delirium Word Tour kicks off down under, these shows are close to selling out!

Openside have had a bumper year so far, opening for Twenty One Pilots and Melanie Martinez as well as selling out their own headline shows. Their single ‘Letting It Out’ reached #1 on the NZ Spotify viral charts, and on September 16, they will unleash their debut EP ‘Push Back’. Openside are fast becoming known for their spiky pop punk live shows so get there early and check them out before they hit the big time!

Celebrated as a force to be reckoned with for her first two albums Lights and Halcyon, Ellie Goulding firmly cemented herself as a superstar with the release of third studio album Delirium (Universal Music) in November last year. An expansive and dazzling collection of genre-defying bangers, Delirium scored immediate acclaim and climbed the top ten in no less than 14 different countries.

Delirium’s first offering was the Grammy-nominated chartbuster ‘Love Me Like You Do’ that swiftly broke the world record for most streamed song in one week, skyrocketing to #1 in 80 countries including both Australia and New Zealand where it was certified double and triple platinum respectively. The next cut from Delirium was ‘On My Mind’, a swagger-charged anthem that reasserts Ellie as one of music’s most surprising and confident performers. Last month Ellie served the one-two punch of ‘Army’ and ‘Something In The Way You Move’, the former a sweeping ode to authentic friendship and the latter an irresistible thumper - both tracks have critics applauding Delirium as her finest album to date.

Alongside solo chart scorchers ‘Anything Could Happen’ and ‘Burn’, Ellie recently teamed with Major Lazer on the reggae-tinged smash ‘Powerful’ and collaborated with Calvin Harris on the multi-platinum selling singles ‘I Need Your Love’ and ‘Outside’.

Ellie’s special guests will include UK electronic virtuosos Years & Years who have quickly impressed with darkly romantic debut album Communion (out now through Universal Music). An intricate balance of mediative lyrics and undeniable hooks, Communion references house, r&b and electropop and has seen the trio win the BBC Sound of 2015 poll and a Critics Choice nomination in the 2015 Brit Awards.

Gold charting single in NZ ‘King’ has gone platinum in seven countries with Billboard calling it “destined to be played at arenas for years to come.” Synth-soaked follow-up single ‘Shine’ achieved Gold certification in their UK homeland where it also soared to #2 on the Singles Chart. As well as appearances at Radio 1's Big Weekend, Wireless Festival, T in the Park and Latitude Festival, the guys set Melbourne and Sydney stages ablaze when they performed Splendour In The Grass sideshows in July of last year.
