New Music - Tomorrow People to release EP BBQ Reggae at the One Love Festival

Tomorrow People will release their new EP BBQ REGGAE exclusively at the One Love Festival in Tauranga this weekend.

The Wellington collective is also performing at the two day-event (January 27 and 28), taking to the stage on Saturday at 5:10pm, giving fans the chance to be the first in the world to get their hands on a copy of BBQ REGGAE and to hear the new tunes played live.

The EP will be released digitally on iTunes and Spotify on Monday, January 29.

Tomorrow People (made up of Marcus Abraham, Ken Saupese, Hamo Dell, Avina Kelekolio, Duane Te Whetu, Dan Sugrue and Tana Tupai) are one of Aoateroa’s most-loved reggae bands, known for their unique ‘sunshine reggae’ sound.

And that’s exactly what they deliver on the 8-track BBQ REGGAE, from the groove-laden opener ‘Never’, to the feel-good ‘Lock Me Up’ - the EP’s lead single, which was played on Top 40 radio and is currently in NZ’s Top 100 airplay chart and the urban chart.

The EP also includes current single ‘Don’t Wanna Fight It’ - which Tomorrow People released in English, Te Reo Māori and Samoan, as a nod to the cultural diversity of the band and their fans.

A recent Māori/Samoan mash-up of the song went viral when it was uploaded to Facebook - watch here.

“Te Reo is one of the official languages in New Zealand, and even though I’m Samoan by ethnicity, I loved the challenge of singing our song in Maori,” says singer Ken Saupese.

The title of the EP, BBQ REGGAE, is a tongue-and-cheek reference to remarks made by a Kiwi journalist a few years ago about reggae in New Zealand. “It’s loosely based on an article by Simon Sweetman talking about our genre and Six60,” explains the band. “He referred to our music as ‘BBQ Reggae’ in a kind of negative way, and we feel that the industry does view our music in that way, so we are embracing that and saying, ‘Well here’s more of it!’”
